rooted onto our shared lawn

In the middle of a Miami August, from noon until dawn, two walls are coiled around my body as I sit on a patch of grass in front of my family home. It rained sporadically and gently.

Once the sun set, half of each wall was broken down, forming two small circles. Moved onto a patch of dying grass—the same patch where our palm tree died three years prior—the three-year-aged clay was left to sit, soak, and eventually merge with the soil beneath.
